- Boeing B-17 heavy bomber on landing approach to Kokomo Airport. Note the focal length of the lens and the size of the plane in the image. Camera position was between sets of approach lights and the plane was no more than about 50 feet in altitude (note also the flaps are down for landing). The B-17 was the mainstay of the heavy bomber fleet in the U.S. Army Air Force during W.W.II and has an aesthetically very pleasing profile. It has the classic lines and profile that most people expect a large plane from its era to have. This is the last "G" model, with the "chin" turret. Less than a dozen are still flying.
